The AFL Noyes M710-24 QUAD Long-Range Multifunction OTDR is a professional fiber optic test platform for certifying and troubleshooting both multimode and single-mode networks. Four-Wavelength Multimode and Single-Mode Testing
The AFL Noyes M710-24 combines two multimode and two single-mode OTDR wavelengths in one instrument. The multimode port operates at 850 and 1300 nm, while the single-mode port operates at 1310 and 1550 nm. This QUAD configuration is suitable for organizations that install, certify or maintain mixed fiber infrastructures.
Multimode testing supports range settings from 250 metres to 64 kilometres, while single-mode testing supports ranges from 250 metres to 256 kilometres. Available pulse widths are optimized for the selected fiber type, allowing technicians to evaluate short premises links and longer telecommunications routes.
The M710-24 provides dynamic ranges of 25 dB at 850 nm, 24 dB at 1300 nm, 40 dB at 1310 nm and 38 dB at 1550 nm. Its short 0.8 m event dead zone and 4 m attenuation dead zone support detailed analysis of closely spaced events.
TruEvent® Event Analysis
AFL TruEvent® technology evaluates the OTDR trace to identify, classify and measure events along the fiber link. Events may include connectors, mechanical splices, fusion splices, reflective interfaces, bends, breaks and the end of the fiber.
Accurate event analysis reduces the amount of manual trace interpretation required during routine testing. Experienced technicians can still review the complete trace and event table when detailed analysis or troubleshooting is required.
LinkMap® Graphical Results
LinkMap® converts OTDR results into a graphical representation of the fiber link. Instead of relying only on a traditional backscatter trace, technicians can view individual events as recognizable link elements with associated measurement information.
This graphical approach makes results easier to interpret and communicate. LinkMap is particularly useful for installation teams, project managers and customers who need a clear presentation of fiber condition without performing detailed OTDR trace analysis.
Touch and Test™ Operation
The Touch and Test™ interface provides one-touch access to OTDR test modes, optical power meter measurements, job creation and stored results. This workflow helps reduce training requirements, operating errors and time spent navigating menus.
The M710-24 provides Full Auto, Real Time and Expert OTDR operating modes. Full Auto mode selects appropriate test parameters for routine measurements. Real Time mode provides continuous trace updates during troubleshooting, while Expert mode allows experienced users to select detailed measurement settings.
Automatic Pass/Fail Analysis
The M710-24 allows technicians to apply pass/fail thresholds based on applicable TIA/ISO values or project-specific criteria. The instrument evaluates the measured fiber and alerts the user when an event or link does not meet the configured limits.
Automatic evaluation supports consistent testing across multiple technicians and fibers. The selected thresholds should match the fiber type, network design, link length, connector count and customer acceptance requirements.
Integrated Optical Power Meter
The M710-24 includes an InGaAs optical power meter calibrated at 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1625 nm. Up to three wavelengths can be displayed simultaneously. Its measurement range extends from +3 to -70 dBm with 0.01 dB resolution.
The power meter displays measurements in dB, dBm or mW and supports reference storage, result storage and tone detection at 270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz. Wave ID automatically identifies and switches to wavelengths transmitted by a compatible AFL Wave ID optical source, helping reduce test time and setup errors.
Integrated Visual Fault Locator
The built-in visual fault locator operates at 635 nm ±20 nm with a nominal output power of 0.8 mW. Visible red light can assist with fiber identification, continuity checks and locating certain breaks, excessive bends or poor connections in accessible fiber links.
The visual fault locator complements OTDR and power meter testing but does not replace quantitative loss measurement or complete OTDR analysis. Fault visibility depends on the cable construction, ambient lighting and location of the affected area.
Connector Inspection Capability
The M710 series can be used with the optional AFL Noyes DFS1 Digital FiberScope. This capability allows technicians to inspect connector end faces and review images on the instrument display.
Connector inspection is an important part of fiber testing because contamination can increase insertion loss, create reflectance and transfer between mated interfaces. An inspect-clean-inspect procedure should be completed before connecting launch cables or test ports.
Results Storage and Data Transfer
The M710-24 stores OTDR results for up to 1,000 fibers in internal flash memory. Results can also be stored on a USB flash drive using either of the two USB host ports. Test files can be downloaded directly from the OTDR to a computer.
OTDR traces use the SR-4731 format, which is based on GR-196-CORE Appendix A and B and SR-4731 requirements. Included PC software supports OTDR trace analysis and optical power meter loss reporting.
