Description
JDSU MAP-200 mLED-A1200 Dual Wavelength LED Light Source 1310/1550nm Module: Dual Independent LED Sources with Internal Modulation
The JDSU MAP-200 mLED-A1200 Dual Wavelength LED Light Source 1310/1550nm Module is a bi-wavelength LED-based light source module for the JDSU MAP-200 platform, providing two independent LED sources in a single cassette. Designed for WDM component manufacturing and testing, it is a fit for engineers working on optical component spectral tests, systems compliance tests, sensors and imaging, spectroscopy, and ASE loading for OSNR measurements.
Key Features and Benefits of the JDSU MAP-200 mLED-A1200 Dual Wavelength LED Light Source 1310/1550nm Module
- Dual independent LED sources — Two independent sources are available in a single cassette, freeing MAP-200 chassis space for other test modules.
- High output power — 0 dBm total power on single-mode 1310 and 1550 nm sources supports WDM component testing without external amplification.
- Wide 3 dB spectral width — Greater than 40 nm 3 dB width on single-mode sources delivers broadband output well-suited to ASE loading and OSNR measurements.
- Low spectral ripple — 0.35 dB spectral ripple at 0.1 nm resolution bandwidth on single-mode sources provides smooth spectral output for accurate component characterization.
- Internal modulation circuitry — Built-in modulation from 0.2 to 20 kHz eliminates the need for external modulators in tone-based fiber identification and lock-in detection setups.
- High output stability — ±0.01 dB stability over 15 minutes at full power keeps measurements repeatable across long test sessions.
- SM and MM output configurations — Available with single-mode or multimode fiber output at 850, 1310, or 1550 nm to match the application.
- LXI Class C compliant — Can be automated when used with MAP-200 LXI-compliant interfaces and IVI drivers for direct integration into automated test systems.
- FC/PC or FC/APC connector options — Choice of standard PC or angled APC polish to match existing test infrastructure.
Advanced Capabilities
The mLED-A1200's combination of high output power and wide spectral width is what makes it particularly useful for WDM component work. A narrow-linewidth laser source can only characterize a component at a single wavelength at a time, requiring wavelength sweeps or multiple sources to build up a complete spectral response. The LED's 40 nm broadband output covers an entire telecom band in a single measurement, which is why it is the preferred source type for spectral characterization of filters, multiplexers, and other wavelength-selective components — as well as for ASE loading in OSNR measurements where a broadband noise-like source is required.
The built-in modulation from 0.2 to 20 kHz is the other practical strength. Modulated LED output pairs directly with lock-in detection schemes and fiber identifier tools, without the need for external chopper wheels or separate modulator drivers. Combined with the dual-source configuration in the A1200 variant, this allows two independently modulated wavelengths to be launched into a DUT simultaneously — useful for simultaneous 1310/1550 nm loss measurements and other dual-wavelength characterization workflows.
Calibration and Quality Assurance
Every JDSU MAP-200 mLED-A1200 is calibrated prior to shipping to OEM specifications. The order includes a Calibration Certificate, Calibration Label, and full Calibration Data. This means the module arrives traceable, audit-ready, and ready to use straight out of the box — no need to schedule a calibration cycle before putting it into service.
